The Village of Goreville is a Trustee-Village form of Municipal Government and is non-home rule.
The Village President or Mayor is elected at large. The Mayor serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees and performs certain duties as defined by the Village Code, which is local law, or by state statutes.
The legislative body consists of six trustees, elected from the Village at large. The term of the Mayor and Trustees is four years. The Village Treasurer and Clerk is appointed.
City Council meetings are held the first Monday of the month at 6:00 pm at the Village Hall.

Goreville receives its water supply from the Lake of Egypt Water District. Lake of Egypt is a 2,300 acre lake owned by Southern Illinois Power Cooperative and is located just minutes from Goreville.
